MICHAEL ROCHA

Welcome musician and physician, Michael Rocha to In-Focus Podcast Number 120. Michael grew up in New Bedford and graduated from New Bedford High School in 1993.

He performed in the school’s jazz band all four years. Dr. Rocha, a practicing cardiologist, started playing trombone in the 4th grade at the Jireh Swift elementary school. He played in several local bands, which at that time, were led by Eddie Rodrigues.

Mike played in concert bands, marching bands, and big bands. He attended UMass-Dartmouth and continued playing in small jazz ensembles, concert bands, and big bands. After relocating to the area in 2008 to practice cardiology, he says he was, “fortunate to play in the Southcoast Jazz Orchestra led by Bob Williamson and in 2017, the Southcoast Brass Band to share the sounds of New Orleans.”

Michael talks with The Artist Index’s host, Ron Fortier about his background, how he’s blended music and medicine, how the pandemic affected him as both, and lots more. This episode was recorded with Zoom “post-pandemic” in 2022.

We all hope that there will be an end in sight to the COVID-19 Pandemic so that we may return to our studio at the Spectrum Marketing Group in Howland Place in New Bedford. Until then, we will continue to podcast remotely, assisted by Zoom, to accommodate our guests’ schedules and to allow them to remain in the comfort of their homes.

The whole concept of The Artists Index and the journey we are on is still in the making and very organic. If you would like to be a guest or, have a suggestion, please let us know!
