Welcome to the Southcoast Artists Index! We honor our local historical and contemporary artists’ lives, professions, and contributions to maintain the cultural sustainability of our creative community.

As a collaborative community archive, we are focused on building an organic biographical directory of artists from the past to the present. What began as a website project, over a decade ago, has evolved into a nonprofit arts and culture enterprise. The Southcoast Artists Index is dedicated to building a cultural legacy by documenting every artist connected to the fabled creative communities of the South Coast of Massachusetts.

Building this Index requires constantly seeking information, further documentation, and prime examples of each listed artist’s creative work to create an excellent resource for scholars, genealogists, and non-artists alike. The Index is committed to the present and passionate about the past continuing to grow as a reference tool featuring local contemporary and historical Visual, Performing, Literary, and Culinary Artists, Community Art Leaders, Art Organizations, and Art Industry Professionals.

The Artists Index, Inc. is the preeminent, trusted, and accessible local resource providing up close and personal conversations with the makers, performers, supporters, and cultural impresarios of our remarkable creative communities of the South Coast. We deliver entertainment and information as we attract contemporary artists to come forward and search for stories and evidence about the forgotten, undocumented, and unheralded voices of the historical artists who lived, worked, or were educated here.
