In Focus Podcast

Episode 66

“I don’t make art. I make art happen.”

Jeremiah Hernandez

Welcome art adjacent, art activist, and co-founder of the now fabled U.G.L.Y. Gallery in New Bedford, Jeremiah Hernandez to In-Focus Podcast Number 66.  Jeremiah is also the Community Partnerships Manager at Entrepreneurship for All – EforAll, and the Executive Director at EforAll South Coast.

But wait, there’s more! Mr. Hernandez is also a Board Member at Superflat NB, “A creative placemaking, mural art project dedicated to beautifying New Bedford while flattening barriers to the arts.”

He says, “I don’t make art. I make art happen.” He, along with friend and co-founder David Guadeloupe first came on the scene in New Bedford’s creative community when they opened the U.G.L.Y. (U Gotta Love Yourself) Gallery in 2001. It was as the founders described, “An art gallery & boutique with a focus on hand-rendered art for canvas, clothes, and community lending legitimacy to an art form lost in obscure and illegal locations.”

Listen in on his conversation as The Artist Index’s host, Ron Fortier delves more into Jeremiah’s life, his work, and his future ambitions. This episode was recorded with Zoom during the pandemic of 2020. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR THE PODCAST LINK or LISTEN HERE(new episodes are added a short time after being posted here)

The whole concept of The Artists Index and the journey we are on is are still in the making and very organic. And, at this critical time in our country’s history, challenged by the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have continued to podcast remotely, assisted by Zoom, in order to assure that our guests remain safe and, in the comfort of their home.

If you would like to be a guest or, have a suggestion, please let us know!
