In Focus Podcast

Episode 95

The lives of 6 whaling women from New Bedford and Nantucket in their own words…

WHALING WOMEN – WORLD PREMIER

This is a very different and exciting podcast episode on so many levels! Welcome returning guest, Patrice Tiedemann, the artistic director of the Seaglass Theater Company who was our guest on Podcast Episode: 78 and, composer Jodi Goble to In-Focus Podcast Number 95.

This podcast focuses on the Seaglass Theater Company’s world premiere of Whaling Women at the First Unitarian Church in New Bedford, Massachusetts. It is a lyrical score that marries composer Jodi Goble’s original music with historically accurate sea chanteys, tunes, and lullabies of the 19th century.

Whaling Women tells of love and loss – whether at sea chasing whales and braving the dangers of shipwreck, or on land-managing households and fighting for social justice in their communities.

THE CAST INCLUDES Diana McVey as Betsey Morey, Helen Hassinger as Phebe Sherman, Melynda Davis as Amelia Piper, Patrice Tiedemann as Eliza Brock, Emily Harmon as Susan Veeder, Heather Gallagher as Ruth Post, and Raymond Veary as the Man in the Boat.

Listen in on the conversation as The Artist Index’s host, Ron Fortier delves more into this production, the Seaglass Theater, and their future ambitions. This episode was recorded with Zoom post-pandemic in 2021.

We will soon begin to offer the option to our guests of recording their podcasts in our studio at the Spectrum Marketing Group in Howland Place or via Zoom depending on the circumstances of the pandemic.

Although there seems to be an end in sight for the COVID-19 Pandemic, we will continue to podcast remotely, assisted by Zoom, to accommodate our guests’ schedules and to allow them to remain in the comfort of their homes.

The whole concept of The Artists Index and the journey we are on is are still in the making and very organic. If you would like to be a guest or, have a suggestion, please let us know!
