GALLERY X DOCUMENTATION PROJECT – POP-UP POSTER PRINT EXHIBIT
Take Home A Piece Of Gallery X’s Enduring Legacy
The Artists Index and Gallery X wrap up the Gallery X Documentation Project during AHA! Night on May 14 at Gallery X with ten open-edition, archival poster reproduction prints, on exhibit and available for purchase. This one-night-only pop-up print exhibit offers Gallery X members, collectors, and supporters a rare opportunity to take home a piece of Gallery X’s enduring legacy.
These fine art reproduction prints will be available for purchase from 6:30 to 8 pm. at Gallery X on May 14th only. Prints will be available for purchase online after the 14th.
The project was the first phase of a larger agenda and collaboration. It began with the herculean task of scanning Gallery X‘s entire collection of documents, including news clippings, posters, flyers, photographs, and much more.
The scanned documents are archived with The Artists Index. We have been seeking funding to mine the collected data for information specific to the scores of artists who have exhibited at Gallery X over the past thirty years.
Gallery X is New Bedford’s oldest continually operating cooperative art gallery. It was founded in 1990 and is a contemporary, cooperative art gallery of visual, performing, and literary artist members and volunteers. The scheduled exhibit opens a vivid window into the gallery and the South Coast creative community’s past with this can’t-be-missed, vintage poster exhibit, presented as part of May AHA! Night.
This curated installation brings together ten striking posters selected from a collection spanning more than thirty years—each one a visual artifact of the energy, experimentation, and community spirit that have defined Gallery X across generations.
